Blue Farm takes its name from the farmhouse at Anne Moller-Rackeʼs home and vineyard in Carneros. Blue Farm Sonoma Coast is a new addition to our family of wines. It is a blend of our Pinot Noir vineyards, stretching the length of the Sonoma Coast.

Gapʼs Crown is one of the highly acclaimed North Coast vineyards known for its layered Pinot Noirs. We work with two blocks, block 13, Dijon 777 and block 8, Dijon 667. Block 13 is close to the southeast corner of the vineyard on gravelly clay loam and block 8 is an elevated plain overlooking block 13. The soils are rocky clay loam. The tiny berries of block 13, Dijon 777, are the backbone, giving the wine its structure. Block 8, Dijon 667, brings the perfume and mouthfeel. The wine is elegant and racy, a true representation of the Sonoma Coast AVA.

The Vintage
The 2023 vintage will be remembered for many reasons. It was one of our wettest years in a long time, with over 40 inches of rain here in Carneros. Flowering was one of the latest on record, June 6, followed by one of the latest harvests. In 2022, we had all of our grapes picked by September 15; in 2023 we had not even started. Our first lot was the 1861 Vineyard, which came in on September 24. The first week of October was very busy for us, bringing in fruit from the Estate Anne Katherina Vineyard, Zio Tony Vineyard and Gap’s Crown Vineyard. Our fruit was clean and the beautiful slow ripening helped develop delicate layers, soft tannins and intense flavors. Due to the cool weather, the acidity was maintained and added great structure to these delicious wines. 2023 was a year of patience, lots of canopy work, and trust. I am excited to share these wines with you.
